Admittedly, choosing Foucault for the podcast was both obvious and necessary AND crazy and reckless. Truth is all over his work and it is almost impossible to pin Foucault down on anything. The king of plausible deniability, maybe. “I never said that.” But while many may think this is somewhat of a flaw, I have decided to think of it as a feature. Foucault’s thinking grows and changes, it evolves. And always remains a little indeterminate. Because he describes what he sees and it almost seems like reality is always just a little different. As Foucault might argue, because we create it as we speak. To me, that is a reminder, that I should be careful what I say yet always take what I say with a grain of salt. If that makes your head hurt, you are not the first one, won’t be the last. It makes my haed hurt sometimes. Take a break, read a little Arendt or Machiavelli. It’ll make you feel better.

But then, come back. I have collected some stuff that might be helpful to start further investigation. The list is not comprehensive. Nor is it superiour to other introductory lists. But I did put some thought in it.

A lot more than what I talked about Is in this lectures series

Michel Foucault 2011: The courage of truth. (Edited by Frédéric Gros and others). Basingstoke: Palgrave MacMillan.

This next bit is an audio of a lecture by Michel Foucault held at UC Berkely around the time of this last course. Might be a good starting point. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8MOEcfB7zg

And because I promised and I am sure you are still not crazy in your head from it all:

A little something on Martin Heidegger

And some Ludwig Wittgenstein

Last piece of advice: let it sit for a while. It makes more sense as time goes on, this needs to sink in.
